In sharp contrast, Brees signed multiple items for the people in attendance and he signed my jersey!I politely asked him for it, and told him even though it wasn’t a Saints jersey, I appreciated his time spent in San Diego The guy replied “no problem, I’ll sign it.” and he did Class act that Brees guy. He told his caddy to move along; he wanted to walk with the fans At this point, Strahan and L.T were back at hole No. 9 to begin their second round. If Strahan retires now, so be it. He got his Super Bowl win and he finished his career in style. Good for him! Maybe he will enjoy a second career as a TV analyst. Either way, Strahan should get nothing but support; this “G-Man” can do no wrong.. Moving to Citi Field is the fans’ saving grace for the future. With the Mets falling out of contention, their fans have little to look forward to.
The looming prospect of an empty, lame-duck Shea Stadium come September is sending chills down the spines of everyone from Fred Wilpon to Cow Bell Man.The one saving grace of 2008 can been seen hovering over the left field fence. Citi Field, the Mets’ new home beginning next April, has become the primary topic of conversation at Shea between season ticket holders, taking the place of the normal banter on how the team can make a stretch run.Met fans are conceding early this year. Over the past calendar year, the NL’s highest paid team has played exactly .500 baseball As we all know, that is not going to get it done Met fans are not dumb. They know they have little chance of winning a pennant this year. The Phillies have Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Chase Utley. They score lots of runs and score them when it counts. The Mets have one .300 hitter, Ryan Church, who is out indefinitely with symptoms from two concussions he suffered this season. His condition is a metaphor for his ailing team: knocked-out, dizzy, and uncertain about its future. With more than three million tickets sold and and nearly two-thirds of the season remaining, the fans will still show up at Shea, to pay homage to the place, if nothing else. The quality of baseball their team will provide will not be worthy of such attention, though. That is, unless they turn things around quickly.
But that does not seem likely. The Mets can still spin things to their advantage if they change the look and chemistry of their team. Since they are not going to win anyway this year, they may as well begin the overhaul now.First things first Underachieving and overpaid players have to go. New faces have to be brought in.Give the throngs a little hope for the future Mike Carp should be brought up to play 1B. Fernando Martinez should be promoted and put in the outfield. Eddie Kunz should be elevated to pitch in the bullpen.Willie Randolph need not be fired during the season, but I am recommending that he be replaced before the Mets move into Citi Field.Getting back to Citi Field, the NY Daily News ran a nice story on the progress of Flushing’s new baseball Mecca.Daily News articlefrom mrflushing .
